Shravanabelagola (white pond of Saravana) is located in the Hassan
district of Karnataka. One of the most important pilgrimage destination for
Jainism, the Gommateshwara Bahubali statue was built by King Ashoka. The statue
stands 58-feet tall. Chandragupta Maurya, the Jain monk, led an ascetic life
style and died here in 298 BC.
