Jalakandeswarar Temple, Vellore, Tamil Nadu

The Jalakandeswarar Temple lies within the Vellore fort and is dedicated to Shiva. A story of the temple began with King Nayaka of the Vijaynagar dynasty having a dream that Lord Shiva told him to place a lingam on a giant ant-hill which was surrounded by a collection of water. The name Jalakandeswarar Temple comes from the word “Jalam”  (water in Tamil)  and translated as Lord Shiva residing in the water.
